Traveling to Phuket with pets

Traveling with pets can definitely be challenging, but it can also be incredibly exciting and satisfying. In fact, more people are choosing not to leave their furry friends at home. If you are planning to travel to Phuket with your pet, there are a few things you should keep in mind.

Flight preparation

Start preparing a couple of months before your flight. You will need to obtain a permit to bring your pet into Thailand, get all the necessary vaccinations and prepare your four-legged passenger for the flight. You can apply for a permit no earlier than one and a half months before departure.

Permit to bring an animal into Thailand

To obtain a permit, please write to the Phuket Quarantine Service e-mail address: qshk_hkt@dld.go.th. In a free-form letter, state the reason for your application in English. Be ready to provide scans of your documents: All completed pages of your passport, veterinary book with all vaccinations, photo of the animal and form 1.1.

Visiting a veterinary clinic

The next thing to do is to go to a state veterinary clinic. The animal must be vaccinated no earlier than 30 days before receiving the certificate.

Buying airline tickets

The ideal option is a direct flight with no connections. Even at the stage of booking tickets, inform the carrier that you are flying with your pet.

On an airplane

As a fragile carry-on baggage, you can try placing the cage under the front seat. If your pet behaves calmly, it can be taken out of the cage and held in your arms for the duration of the flight.

Where to stay in Phuket with a pet

We have left this point for last, although you will have to solve the issue of accommodation even before obtaining permission to bring your pet into Thailand. In fact, it is not easy to find comfortable accommodation where pets are allowed. According to our observations, only 20% of the total number of villas are ready to accept guests with pets.
