Thailand is a renowned surfing center, offering excellent conditions for both veterans of the sport and those who are just beginning their introduction to waves.

Surfing season in Thailand

The main season for surfing in Thailand is from May to October, with the most favorable conditions in June. This is the time of year when the sea is rough, creating perfect waves for surfing.

Best surfing spots

Phuket Island is one of the most popular surfing destinations in Thailand. You’ll find plenty of board rentals here, with rentals ranging from 150 to 300 baht per hour.

Surfing in Phuket: Kata Beach and Other Locations

Phuket, known for its picturesque beaches and warm climate, has become a true paradise for surfers. Among the many beaches, Kata stands out as the most popular among surfing enthusiasts. The waves here can be quite fast and reach heights of up to 2 meters, making it an ideal spot for those seeking thrills. However, it's important to note that surfing at Kata is only possible during the low season, as there are virtually no waves at other times of the year.

Surfing at Kata

At Kata Beach, you will find the famous "Surf House," where you can test your skills on an artificial wave regardless of the weather. For 1000 baht per hour, you can ride under the guidance of experienced instructors, making this experience accessible for both beginners and more seasoned surfers. Special attention is given to women here: on Fridays from 9 to 11 PM, ladies can ride absolutely for free! This isn’t quite traditional surfing, but the enjoyment of riding is guaranteed.

During the low season, when the waves become more suitable for surfing, local surf schools are very active at Kata. They offer lessons with champion instructors for just 1000 baht per hour, including board rental. At the RE KA TA beach club and the "Nautilus Diving and Surfing School," located in the southern part of the beach, you can rent a board without an instructor for only 150 baht per hour.

Kalim Beach

The second most popular beach is Kalim. Here, the waves are usually higher than at Kata, reaching up to three meters and stretching 100 meters in favorable conditions. Due to its location, this beach is protected from storms, making it more suitable for professional surfing. You can also rent a board and take advantage of instructors at Kalim. However, prices here are higher: board rental costs 300 baht per hour, and training with an instructor is 3000 baht, but sessions typically last several days.

Nai Harn Beach

Nai Harn Beach is a less predictable spot for surfing. Waves here can reach three meters, but sometimes there are none at all. Renting boards also depends on luck, as it’s not always possible to find someone offering surfboards and lessons.

Kamala Beach

At Kamala, you can catch decent waves that reach three meters closer to the shore. However, this beach is more suitable for experienced surfers, as the weather conditions change rapidly, making it difficult for beginners to manage the board.

Learning to surf

There are many surf schools available in Thailand that offer lessons for beginners. They will help you learn the basics of surfing, how to read the waves and how to stand confidently on your board.

Tips for beginners

It’s important to remember that surfing is not only about knowing how to control your board, but also about respecting the sea. Always follow safety rules, never overestimate your abilities and respect other surfers.

Also, don’t forget to use sunscreen, even if the sky is covered with clouds, and always stay hydrated.

Anyone who has ever tried to conquer waves on a surfboard knows that it is an unforgettable feeling of freedom and happiness. Thailand is a great place to experience it!
